  10. This item applies ONLY to Windows for DOS (not Windows NT):

  12. Due to the fact that MS Windows implements COOPERATIVE multitasking, it is
  13. possible for a not so nice program to steal Windows' attention for an
  14. inordinate amount of time.  If this happens, an active file transfer
  15. may be aborted by the remote side because it is not receiving any responses.

  17. Certain actions inside the windows environment can cause the same problem.
  18. Multitasking is suspended any time a system modal dialog box is on the screen.

  20. Fortunately, you should rarely encounter these problems during normal use.

  23. Setting Communications Configuration
  24. ------------------------------------

  26. It is very important to set your communications options before attempting
  27. to connect to another KERMIT.  Use Configuration:Communications to set
  28. these options.

  31. Communicating with IBM Mainframes
  32. ---------------------------------

  34. This program fully supports commuications and the Kermit protocol with
  35. an IBM (EBCDIC) Mainframe Host.  However, you must be sure
  36. to configure all of the communications options correctly.  Also, the
  37. ASCII to EBCDIC translations performed by the mainframe side must be
  38. correct.  If you are unsure of the correctness of the mainframe
  39. KERMIT's installation, try a different version of KERMIT on your
  40. PC (the standard MS-DOS version is fine).
